Kovalam is a seaside resort well known of foreigners who enjoy its sandy bays to fifteen km from Trivandrum.

Kovalam, like many Indian beaches, changes a lot, not only for decoration camped coconut, but also for the architectural imagination and lack of straights and wide streets that make its charm.

There is everything to eat, but also crafts from all parts of India. No problem to find a statue of Shiva or Ganesh, or a Tibetan tanka, but no worries either to feast on baracuda cooked in coconut milk or grilled pomfrit. Prices very interesting for us Western do the rest.
 

During the monsoon, it is better to avoid the beach, although anyway there are some restaurants opened. This is the best time for Ayurvedic cure, but the beach is to watch the storm waves.

In season (excluding monsoon which is from June to September), you can swim and surf (a lot of waves, except the few sheltered spots) in the tropical waters

You can find in Kovalam many centers for "ayurvedic massages", for tourists, and also schools of yoga, meditation centers, etc...

The quality of care is different from one to the other but if you look for relaxation, you may easily find it; for reported ailments, it is better to move into specialty clinics, or at least centers with all the guarantees required (Green or Olive Leaf).

There are many excursions possibilities around Kovalam, like Padmanabhapuram's Palace, something like 50 km southwards, Cape Comorin, ( Kanyakumari), 85 km, the furthest point south of Indian subcontinent.

    You may find several cash points (Automated Teller Machine or ATM) in Kovalam. They deliver wads of 100 or 500 rupees. Provide large pockets or purse.
